DESCRIPTION:At the gateway to the Ardennes, Nassogne is a village where centuries of history meet the forest. From the Romans to Saint Monon, its past has left stories that are still woven into the landscape.\nLeaving the village, we head deep into the forest, following streams and wooded valleys towards the Huttes observation point. Here, the landscape suddenly opens into heathland and wet areas, shaped by acidic, nutrient-poor soils and waterlogged ground. The contrast with the surrounding woodland creates a very different landscape.\nThe walk is full of contrasts: forest (with broad-leaved and coniferous trees) and open landscape, wet and dry ground, ancient history and more recent wartime traces hidden among the trees (particularly relevant on Armistice day, the day of our hike). At this time of year, we may also catch the last colours of autumn before the forest settles into its quieter November landscape.\nA walk where nature, history and remembrance come together; and where the landscape has more stories to tell than first meets the eye.\nRESERVATIONS REQUIRED. There will be no waiting time longer than the 15 minutes specified in the programme. Please note that sunset in Nassogne is around 4:58 pm on 11 November. As part of the walk takes place in the forest, we will make sure to be back before daylight fades COMPLETELY.\nIf you are travelling by car from Brussels, we recommend leaving around 7:30 am to arrive comfortably in Nassogne before the 9:30 am start.\nWe will have three seats available in our car. If you would like to share our ride, or if you are looking for someone to share the journey with, please contact me. Participants are also encouraged to organise car sharing among themselves.\nDifference in height: approximately 300 metres\nDistance: approximately 18 km\nDuration: around 6 hours\nDifficulty: Moderate\nA circular walk of approximately 18 km through the countryside and forests around Nassogne, taking around 6 hours including plenty of time for explanations, observation and pauses.  The route includes some steep and rocky sections, stream crossings and paths that can become very muddy or wet after rain. The forest terrain can also be uneven, so proper hiking boots are essential.\nEquipment: Proper hiking boots are very important. The walk is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Bring sufficient water and a picnic in your backpack. Children under 14 years are not allowed. Walking poles may be useful, particularly on the steeper or muddy sections. Pets are not permitted.\nTransportation: Nassogne can be reached by public transport, although connections are limited. Please check the current timetable before travelling. Free parking is available in the village.\nCOST:\n€30 per person. Under 18 years, fee is 20 euros. The fee includes the guided walk and liability insurance. The guide has completed the first year of the Centre de Formation pour Accompagnateurs en Randonnée (CFAR) programme, including the technical and practical examinations, and holds a First Aid certificate.\nPayment is made on site before the start of the activity.\nIn the event of bad weather or if the minimum number of participants is not reached, the Guide reserves the right to cancel the walk or modify the route. In the event of cancellation, we will send an email by 4:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled walk.
